The EML2040D is a 40Gbit/sec Programmable Laser Diode Driver capable of driving 50 ohm matched Electro-Absorption Modulators (EAMs) with output signal levels of 6v peak to peak at a bit rate of 40Gbps. Packaged in a small industrial metal enclosure, it can drive differential transmission lines or 25 ohm matched laser diodes. It's 2/3-wire interface bus provides programming capability for current source, cross point switching, amplitude control, and general wave shaping through a standard PC Parallel Port, SPI or I2C interface.

The EML2040D is factory tested and configured for optimum output waveforms. The user can change these parameters using the Windows based interface software, as described in the EML2040D data sheet.
